Two Rohingya women escaped from the clutches of human traffickers in India.
The two sisters aged 19 and 17 arrived in Hyderabad recently after escaping the traffickers about a week back. Their names are being concealed for security purposes.
The women say that they were held in some part of Orissa after being brought to India about three months back. They escaped during night when their guards were not vigilant enough. They made the long journey to Hyderabad because they know the existence of a Rohingya Muslim community in the area.
Back in Buthidaung, the women’s families were promised good jobs, Rohingya Muslim husbands and the protection of UNHCR if they could cross into India. The women’s parents wanted them gone because Rakhine miscreants in the area were targeting them for some time.
However after they came to India, they understood that they were destined for the sex industry.
They say that many Rohingya Muslim women now lead a deplorable life after being trafficked to India.
During their time with traffickers in India, the women were also prevented from offering their prayers.
A trafficker called Doha had organised the journey from Buthidaung to India.
Sources in Buthidaung say that the traffickers has smuggled many other women to India after making similar promises.
