On Monday, the Turkish İDDEF – İnsana Değer Veren Dernekler Federasyonu announced that it plans to set up a camp for 1,000 families in Bangladesh for the benefit of displaced Rohingya refugees from Arakan province in western Myanmar.
This came in a statement issued by the Association, based in Istanbul, on their relief activities in Bangladesh against the Muslims of Arakan fleeing the persecution of Myanmar army and extremist Buddhist militias.
The statement added that the Union has increased the pace of relief work in Bangladesh, as the influx of more displaced persons to the region and their stay in random camps that lack the conditions of life.
He added that the volunteers of the Union distributed humanitarian aid to one thousand and 100 Arakan families, enough for a week, the aid and donations they collected in Turkey.
He stressed that following contacts with officials in Bangladesh, the Federation had decided to establish a camp accommodating 1,000 Arakan families in the first phase.
He added that the second phase includes expansion of the camp, bringing the total absorption to 10 thousand families.
He pointed out that the camps will meet the needs of electricity through solar energy, and will include warehouses for food preservation, and 250 toilets, a school, and 5 mosques, a clinic and a restaurant.
Since August 25, the Myanmar army and Buddhist militias have committed genocide against the Rohingya in Arakan province, killing nearly 7,000 people, according to the Arakan Rohingya National Organization.
The massive violations have pushed another 515,000 people into neighboring Bangladesh, according to the United Nations.
