Turkey’s Prime Minister’s Office for Cooperation and Coordination (TIKA) has announced plans to house 100,000 Rohingya Muslims who are being subjected to massacres and genocide in Arakan province, western Myanmar, by the army and extremist Buddhist militias.
The agency’s coordinator in Bangladesh, Mr. Ahmed Rafiq Jiten, said in a press statement that he had held a meeting with Bangladesh’s Minister of Relief and Disaster Management, preferred Hussein Chaudhry .
Ahmed Rafiq pointed out that he informed the Bangladeshi minister during the meeting that Turkey would distribute a large amount of humanitarian aid to the displaced Rohingya to Bangladesh to escape injustice and persecution in Arakan.
He said that Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would visit Bangladesh in the coming days to learn about the situation of the refugees and their needs, and how to get the necessary support and assistance.
“Turkey will provide accommodation for 100,000 Arakan Muslims in Bangladesh,” Ahmed said.
Since August 25th, Myanmar’s army and Buddhist militias have committed crimes, attacks and brutal massacres against the Muslim minority in Arakan, killing and displacing tens of thousands of innocent people, according to local activists.
Since that date, some 430,000 Rohingya Muslims have crossed the territory of western Myanmar, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, on Sunday.
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International called on the UN Security Council on Tuesday to press the government of Myanmar to stop ethnic cleansing of Rohingya.
