The United Nations condemned a “series of coordinated attacks” on security forces in Myanmar on Friday and called on parties of the crisis in the northern state of Arakan to stop violence.
The army said at least 21 rebels and 11 members of the security forces were killed in the restive province of Arakan on Friday after gunmen launched coordinated attacks on 24 police posts and an army base.
“All parties must stop violence, protect civilians and restore order,” said the statement issued by the United Nations coordinator in Myanmar, Renata Lok-Dessallien” We are very concerned about the security situation in Arakan,” she said.
