The Turkish humanitarian aid organization IHH provides humanitarian aid to 50,000 Rohingya Muslims in Arakan state in western Myanmar, who face difficult circumstances.
A statement issued by the agency said that they began providing aid in March this year and will continue in April, also these will benefit about 10 thousand families, consisting of about 50 thousand people.
Most Rohingya Muslims live in isolation from the community, deprived of basic rights such as education and healthcare, and face extremely difficult conditions as a result of the state’s denial of citizenship.
They added that the first phase of the aid included the distribution of food, hygiene supplies, clothing and blankets to families in a number of villages and displaced persons’ camps in Arakan.
The agency is also building 140 houses in the Rohingya villages and 40 places to live in the camps.
About one million Rohingya Muslims live in camps in Arakan province after they were denied citizenship under a law approved by Myanmar in 1982. The government considers them illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, while the United Nations classifies them as “the most persecuted religious minority in the world.”
The province is one of Myanmar’s poorest states, and since 2012 has witnessed attacks on Muslims, killing hundreds of them and displacing more than 100,000 people.
