Myanmar government ministers met with Buddhist monks to discuss the deteriorating security situation in Arakan and efforts to ensure the safety of ethnic Arakan citizens living there.
During a meeting with 11 Buddhist monks in the administrative capital of Akyab, Border Affairs Minister Lt. Gen. Ye Aung said the government would guarantee security in the northern part of the state.
A number of Buddhist monks and Rakhine ethnic residents demonstrated in 15 towns in Arakan province on Sunday, demanding the government resolve the security situation, and called on aid agencies to leave the area and accused them of supporting Muslim militants.
