The authorities in the country have listed the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army group as extremist terrorist groups under the anti-terrorism law, a statement issued by the Myanmar Central Committee for Combating Terrorism said late on Friday.
The group had earlier launched attacks on some police sites and their headquarters in the towns of Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathidaung in Arakan State of Myanmar, killing nine policemen in defense against the repressive practices imposed by the Myanmar forces and in response to repeated attacks by the authorities against civilians.
The statement added that the government will do all it can to stop the violence and bring the perpetrators and their supporters to justice.
The statement also said that the government has also set up committees to carry out security, peace, rule of law and regional development in Arakan.
