Participants in the American Muslim Day march condemned the massacres of Rohingya Muslims in Arakan (Rakhine) province in western Myanmar by the army and Buddhist extremists.
The march began in the Manhattan area of New York City, with the participation of New York City Muslims and local officials, as well as many non-Muslims.
Some participants carried placards with slogans such as “Stop the Genocide against the Muslims in Myanmar”, “No to Ethnic Cleansing” and “Stop the Murder”.
The march ended with a statement condemning the massacres against the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
And “American Muslim Day” is a show held in the heart of New York City on the third Sunday of September every year since 1985.
Since August 25th, Myanmar’s army and Buddhist militias have been committing crimes, assaults and brutal massacres against the Muslim minority of Rohingya in Arakan that have killed and displaced tens of thousands of innocent people, according to local activists, crimes the United Nations has described as ethnic cleansing.
Since that date, some 430,000 Rohingya Muslims have crossed the territory west of Myanmar, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, on last Sunday.
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International called on the UN Security Council on Tuesday to press the government of Myanmar to stop ethnic cleansing of Rohingya.
