The final statement of the meeting of the OIC: Send a high – level delegation to Arakan

Organization of Islamic Cooperation has decided to send a high – level delegation to the Arakan State from Myanmar Ministerial Contact Group to Myanmar and the Secretary General to meet with government officials and members of Rohingya minority in affected areas by the violence.
This came in the final statement of the meeting held by the organization today in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur to discuss the Rohingya Muslims issue, where the statement included a number of decisions approved by the Member States.

The organization called in the statement, by the OIC Member States to join efforts with the international community’s efforts to lift all restrictions on freedom of movement in Arakan State and to push the delivery of humanitarian assistance to alleviate the suffering and the plight of Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State and the establishment of a mechanism for humanitarian aid for them with effective results.

The organization expressed in its statement about its concern regarding the acts of violence and gross violations of human rights and abuses against members of Rohingya minority, also urged the Myanmar government to take effective measures to prevent the repetition of such acts and violations and the application of the rule of law for all, and safeguard the rights of every individual and travel without fear of persecution based on religion or race.

The statement also urged the Government of Myanmar to eliminate the root causes behind the crisis, including stripping the Rohingya minority of their citizenship, making them as individuals without a homeland, deprives them of their rights and clinch their property, discrimination against them and to work to find a fair solution for this lasting this issue.

The statement called on the Government of Myanmar to take urgent measures for the sustainable return of refugees and displaced Rohingya persons to their homes in Arakan state with security, safety and dignity and to ensure livelihood for them, stressing that the countries in the region facing severe financial costs and social challenges due to hosting Rohingya refugees, calling on Member States of the Organization to help this according to the principles of burden – sharing and joint responsibility of countries, and in line with the Islamic spirit of solidarity.
