A tourist found a decomposing corpse on the beach is likely to be a displaced Rohingya woman, police said on Tuesday.
According to local media, the woman, known to local residents as Lucy, was last seen on Saturday night and the police actually believe her body is awaiting the results of a forensic examination to confirm.
“Many people think the body is similar to that woman’s body, but we have not seen it yet,” chief of police said.
The police chief described the missing woman as a beggar, mentally handicapped and living on the island for more than 10 years.
The police chief explained that the bad smell prompted tourists to search for the body buried on the beach in Koh Samui area, noting that the body had already been analyzed at the time it was found. He also said there were injuries in the woman’s abdomen but still unclear causes of death.
