The “Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK” (BROUK) said that “starvation is a new way to add to the practices of ethnic cleansing practiced by the army and extremist Buddhist militias against the Rohingya Muslims of Arakan province, western Myanmar.
“Rohingya Muslims are facing famine because the army and the government of Myanmar have not allowed humanitarian access to the province,” said a statement from the British-based NGO.
“Thousands of Rohingyas are crossing into Bangladesh as a result of hunger, as well as systematic violence by the army and extremist Buddhist militias against them,” it said.
“The Myanmar army and Buddhist militias continue to set fire to the homes and workplaces of the Rohingya Muslims, despite the UN calls to stop the violence in the region,” the statement said.
It should be noted that these violations have been committed against the Rohingya Muslims, since 25th August, which killed thousands, and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of innocent, according to local activists.
In a recent UN report, Spokesperson for the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres Mr. Stephane Dujarric said on Friday that the number of Rohingya Muslims fleeing Bangladesh from Arakan province had risen to 515,000.
