A Rohingya man from Maungdaw City died in Myanmar prison for torture during his detention.
Arakan News Agency correspondent said that the deceased was Mr. Siraj Yusuf Ali aged 33, he died inside his cell of the prison in Buthidaung. The cause of death is likely to be the torture.
He added: “The presence of multiple bruises in random parts of his body confirms his exposure to excessive torture contrary to international laws to protect prisoners.”
Rohingya activist Ayoub Saidi called on international human rights organizations to act urgently to put an end to the permanent violations of human rights and the rights of detainees and to ensure the safety of investigation and justice procedures under the Myanmar courts.
It should be noted that the Government of Myanmar had transferred the Rohingya prisoners from the city of Maungdaw to the city of Buthidaung before the arrival of the international investigation teams so that they could not meet the Rohingya civilian detainees.
