Pope Benedict XVI on Sunday condemned the persecution of Myanmar’s Rohingya Muslims, calling for their full rights.
“There is sad news about the persecution of our fellow Muslims from the Rohingya Muslim minority,” Pope Francis said on Sunday. “Pope Francis asked the worshipers in Saint Peter’s Square to pray to God to protect them.
Thousands of Rohingyas tried to flee to Bangladesh after violence escalated in the western state of Arakan.
