Assistant Secretary of Political Affairs of the OIC , Ambassador Abdullah Alam said on Thursday that the organization is trying to pressure the Myanmar government, whether at the international or bilateral level to provide the necessary guarantees for the protection of the fundamental rights of Rohingya Muslims including the basic right to citizenship.
He added that the recent arbitrary campaigns in Myanmar coincided with the prevention of agencies working in the humanitarian field to deliver medicine, food and other basic necessities to Rohingya and apply to policies of discrimination and inciting hatred against Muslims, which the organization condemns strongly.
He stressed the need of providing humanitarian assistance to the Rohingya and to stop the wave of violence unjustified by putting pressure on the Government of Myanmar to achieve these goals.
He said that the organization is following with great interest on Rohingya situation in Myanmar and they are exposed to the marginalization and deprivation also to exclusion which was confirmed by the High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations in their report of June 20, 2016, where they continued about suffering of Rohingya and the violation of their basic rights.
He added that the organization has undertaken concerted efforts in the previous period with the aim of introducing the issue of Rohingya in international forums and regional.
He said that following the recent developments in the organization called its offices in Geneva, Brussels and New York for meetings at the level of representatives of the Member States of the Contact Group on Rohingya to study recent unfortunate developments and submit proposals around.
He expressed the aspiration of the organization to be reached today ‘s meeting to consensus on its way to raise the grievances of the ethnic Rohingya also looked forward to the adoption of practical steps to push the international community to fulfill its obligations to the guarantee of peace and justice for them and enable them to regain the rights of the Muslim community.
