Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Dr. Yusuf bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen stressed the continued commitment of the Organization to follow-up the resolutions issued by the summits and ministerial councils related to the situation of the Rohingya minority in Myanmar as well as Muslim minorities in the West and the situation in a number of Islamic countries.
This came at the meetings of the 44th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), which began Monday in Abidjan, the economic capital of Cote d’Ivoire.
“The spread of the phenomenon of terrorism requires the consolidation of efforts and put an end to its direct and indirect causes and the drying up of its sources of funding and the development of our societies to combat it not only in security, but also culturally, economically and informally,” he said.
During their two-day deliberations, the foreign ministers of Islamic countries will discuss the Rohingya and Palestinian issues, the situation in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Mali, the Central African Republic and other current political issues.
The conference will also discuss resolutions on counter-terrorism, extremism, disarmament, anti-Islamophobia, humanitarian, economic, media, science, technology, information, cultural, social, family and dialogue issues.
During their meeting, the Ministers will consider assessing the implementation of the 2015-2015 OIC Ten-Year Program.
The meeting of the Jammu and Kashmir Contact Group and the Contact Group for Muslims in Europe will also be held on the sidelines of the conference, as well as a special brainstorming session where recommendations and initiatives will be made on the theme of the 44th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers: “Youth, peace and development in a world of solidarity.”
