The UAE is preparing to send another airlift of aid in support of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.
A total of 195 metric tonnes of the core relief items were loaded at the agency’s Dubai warehouses on Wednesday morning.
Thursday’s airlift is the tenth sent from the Dubai Stockpile to Bangladesh and the sixth airlift donated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The Rohingya situation continues to be the fastest growing refugee emergency in the world, with the number of persons uprooted from their homes reaching nearly 610,000.
The Head of UNHCR’s Dubai Office Toby Harward spoke to media about the goods being sent.
Harward added that the agency’s warehouses in Dubai’s International Humanitarian City are a crucial component of its worldwide relief efforts.
He says the emirate’s geopolitical location is ‘absolutely essential’.
