The Kuwaiti Parliamentary Division presented a draft resolution within the framework of the 13th session of the Conference of the Union of Councils of the OIC Member States held in Tehran to condemn all violations committed against Muslims in Myanmar.

“The draft resolution condemns the atrocities committed by the security forces in Myanmar against the Muslims Rohingya minority, discrimination against them and persistent attempts to obliterate their Islamic identity and culture,” member of the Parliamentary Division Dr. Khalil Abdullah said at a meeting of the Union’s Committee on Human Rights, Women and Family.

The project calls on the Myanmar government to cooperate fully with the international fact-finding mission of the Human Rights Council and calls for an end to attempts to obstruct the work of the International Commission of Inquiry.

The project expressed concern about the huge influx of Rohingya people into Bangladesh and the security and economic impact on the latter, stressing that the project urges all OIC member states to provide the necessary support to Bangladesh to counter the influx of refugees into its territory.

The project stressed the need to pressure the Myanmar authorities to work decisively to allow the delivery of relief and medical aid to the Rohingya Muslims, to allow the establishment of safe areas for them and to allow those wishing to return to their territory and their original home.

He said that the project also called for the establishment of a committee of representatives of the Union of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to follow up on all violations of the Rohingya Muslims and follow up the work of the International Commission of Inquiry on this matter.
