In the spirit of Eid ul Adha, Malaysia Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (Mapim) distributed 2,100 packets of meat to Rohingya refugees in the Klang Valley today.…
Mapim vice-president Abdul Aziz Abu Bakar said Diyanet Vakfi, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in Turkey, sponsored 100 cows to be distributed to Kedah, Ipoh, Selangor and Johor for the occasion.
“It is the second time the NGO is sponsoring the cows. Last year, it sponsored 20 cows and because of our success, it decided to sponsor more this year,” he said.
Aziz said Mapim was pleased to work with Diyanet Vakfi to help the Rohingya community.
“We hope that this will be an annual event and we encourage more NGOs to join our programme,” he said.
The event started with the sacrificial slaughter of cows at 7.30am at the Al-Hasanah mosque in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.
More than 100 Rohingya refugees and volunteers participated in the programme.
A kilogram of packed meat will be distributed to every Rohingya family in Selayang, Ampang, Gombak and Klang.
Diyanet Vakfi representative Mustafa Daldal said the aim of the programme was to help Muslim brethren.
“There are many Rohingya refugees who are suffering all over the world. We are doing a small part to assist them during Aidiladha,” he said.
Mustafa also hopes to continue the program next year.
Rohingya refugee Hamid Habi said that there were 17,000 Rohingya families living in Malaysia.
“Five thousand families are already registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. We are grateful for the assistance we are receiving,” he said.
