A Maungdaw court has sentenced at least four men to 25 years in prison on Monday for allegedly killing a policeman in Kiladong.

They have been identified as Dobir Ullah s/o Nazir Uddin (75), Md Shomsu s/o Bodi Alam (45), Rahman Ali s/o Halu (35) and Zahid Alam s/o Ali Ahmed (30).

The four men along with four others were arrested together in the aftermath of the infamous massacre of January 2014 were mercilessly tortured for over a year. The torture led to the death of one prisoner Kamal Uddin (65) in mid February.

Many others have also been arrested and tortured.

Sources say that the four men looked broken as they were led to closed court proceedings in Maungdaw.

On January 2014, scores of Muslims, especially women and children were killed by a Rakhine mob backed by security forces. The government however refuses to acknowledge that such an incident has taken place. They say instead that the only violence that took place was the murder of a policeman by Muslim villagers.

Security forces arrested many Muslims in regard to the murder of this policeman. People arrested from the restive village face brutal torture by security forces.
