Many children in the Leda refugee camp are suffering from pneumonia in the absence of medical care.
In March, the government of Bangladesh barred aid organisations from operating in the overcrowded refuge camp creating a humanitarian disaster. Refugees have been left without access to medical care and basic facilities including water supplies owing to the Bangladesh government decision.
At least four children are in a critical condition from pneumonia and seemed to be on their deathbeds. They are seven month Rozina Begum, one and a half year Aslida Begum, nine month Asiya Bibi and ten month Rahim Ullah.
Their parents say they are dying without any medical treatment which they cannot afford.
Meanwhile the houses of Rashid Ahmed father of Rozina and Abdus Salam father of Aslida were robbed by local miscreants as they moved out to their relatives’ homes for their children’s care.
Many other huts of Leda refugee camps were robbed after their occupants moved out as they were damaged in the cyclone.
Meanwhile many houses in the Shaplapur region were destroyed in the cyclone. In late February the Bangladesh government evicted the refugees from their homes and many are still living in makeshift shelters that could not stand up to the rough weather.
