Cabinet Secretary of Arakan State of Myanmar Tin Maung Swe said it will create seven new villages in the city Maungdaw for Buddhists who have recently fled to Bangladesh.
This came during a press statement to the government in Arakan on 23rd December.
He added that the local government will provide the land for these people and livestock to make a living.
According to the newspaper Mizzima Swe said: “Some Buddhists from Arakan who migrated to Bangladesh recently has come back home, so we will create new villages for themand other people of Arakan who wishes to return to their homeland from other areas.”
The government said that the state has a plan aimed at reducing the demographic gap between the Buddhist community and other communities.
According to the census of 2014, the Rakhine Buddhists living in 98 villages of the Maungdaw city, which represents only 2% of the total population in this city, while Muslims Rohingyas in 208 villages and mixed communities living in 397 villages in this city.
