Misery continues for the refugees of Leda camp where Bangladesh government has stopped all facilities including water and medical care.…
Refugees told Burma Times that the rain was the only source of clean water for many of them. As the monsoon season has not started quite yet, they still rely on dirty water in the nearby hills.
Local villagers have denied permission to the refugees to collect water from their sources.
Many refugees who go to collect water are sexually harassed and even raped.
The lack of clean water has resulted in diseases claiming the lives of some children. The situation has been made worse by the complete absence of healthcare.
Hopes were raised when the International Organization of Migration organized some relief work in the camp. However that has not materialized in anything permanent. Previously the Bangladesh government banned UK based charity Muslim Aid on allegations of sponsoring terrorism.
While the advent of monsoon season will be welcomed by thirsty refugees, diseases are common in this season and the absence of healthcare might have a profound impact for the Rohingya Muslims in the area.
