Local media based in the Bangladesh border regions of Ukhia and Teknaf have slammed international development agencies for their humanitarian work that is discouraging Rohingyas from going back to their country. .
In the article it is claimed that because of the humanitarian agencies, a solution to the Rohingya crisis has not been found. The report claims that the agencies don’t care about how the Rohingyas are disrupting society in Bangladesh and so no permanent solution is found. The renowned humanitarian organisations are also alleged to backers of Rohingya militants.
It is not mentioned how the humanitarian agencies are benefitting from the presence of Rohingyas in Bangladesh.
The article goes on to mention that although the government of Burma wants to accept the refugees back, the humanitarian agencies provide them with so many facilities that not only do the refugees not want to go back, but many are crossing over to Bangladesh.
The report also blames UNHCR for refusing the repatriation of Rohingyas in their homeland. The government of Burma is mentioned as a sincere stakeholder that is doing its best to settle Rohingya Muslims on their own lands. However the Rohingyas are enjoying Bangladesh so much that they don’t want to go back.
The report comes in the midst of a humanitarian disaster in the Leda refugee camp where Bangladesh government has shut down operations of all NGOs. As a result basic facilities including water and healthcare remain totally cut off. Elsewhere in Shaplapur and adjoining areas, authorities have evicted thousands of refugees.
In the meantime, the situation in Burma looks to deteriorate as the government withdraws identification papers of Rohingya Muslims known as white cards. This has created suspicions that the government intends to leave many Rohingyas without any official documents.
An earlier report by the same newspaper said that due to worsening situation over the white card withdrawal, many Rohingyas might consider crossing over to Bangladesh. It remains a mystery how the same newspaper claims that the situation in Burma is normal, despite international reports to the contradictory.
