Indonesian President Joko Widodo has been urged by Democrat Party spokesperson, Ruhut Sitompul, to help the Rohingyas currently stranded in North Aceh.
JAKARTA: Democrat Party spokesperson Ruhut Sitompul on Monday (May 18) urged President Joko Widodo to help the Rohingya Muslims stranded in North Aceh.
“I’m sending this message on behalf of the party’s chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who had asked President Jokowi to assist the thousands of Muslims drifting at sea. Do ask the Navy to help,” said Mr Ruhut as he interrupted the opening plenary session at Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta.
Mr Ruhut said as a country with the biggest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has to lend a hand to fellow Muslims.
Mr Ruhut who is also a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III, hopes the message can be sent to President Widodo, so that the Rohingya Muslims can get the needed attention. “DPR leaders, please send this message to the President, this is a humanitarian crisis,” Mr Ruhut said.
