The OIC Department of Information Affairs launched an awareness campaign on social networking sites to highlight the issue of the minority Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, especially after the violence that erupted in Arakan province in Myanmar in August and September that led to the burning of many Muslim villages and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of children, women and the elderly.
These events are part of the numerous persecution campaigns carried out by the Myanmar authorities against minority members over the past decades.
The campaign comes after fabricated news have begun to spread over social networks, including fake images and videos against the minority. The Rohingya case has been referred to chaos and confusion on the media, thus questioning the credibility of minority grievances and negatively affecting public support for them.
OIC Secretary-General Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen said: “These false publications do not serve the purpose and shows the facts about the conditions of the Rohingya minority.
He added: These sections and fabricated images have a negative impact on the issue; a general impression began to spread that there is exaggeration in the suffering faced by the minority, and thus reduced moral support for them.
The organization’s campaign would reveal the documented facts, not the misrepresentations and falsifications of the authorities in Myanmar about the suffering of the Rohingya, that was most persecuted minority in the world, according to the United Nations itself and numerous international governmental and non-governmental organizations.
“The Rohingya crisis is a global issue that is being addressed by different countries of the world. It is not a transitory issue that can be tampered with or disproved by some pseudo-online publications.
