Hundreds of demonstrators demonstrated in the German capital Berlin on Friday to protest attacks against Muslims in Myanmar’s Arakan province.
The Berlin Muslims Initiative organized the demonstration, which was attended by a large number of Turks living in the German capital, where they gathered in the Alexander Platz square and then marched to the historic Brandenburg Gate.
The protesters expressed their anger at the Myanmar government and carried banners reading “Stop the Massacre of the Muslims in Myanmar”, shouting slogans such as “Women Want Life” and “Rohingya Want Life”.
The demonstrators also held posters with pictures of the Arakan Muslims who were persecuted. The demonstration ended in front of the square of “Parizer” by praying for the Muslim Rohingya.
Since August 25th, the Myanmar army and Buddhist militias have launched attacks against the Rohingya Muslims; thousands of Rohingya people have been killed and wounded as of September 6th, according to human rights activists.
The United Nations said last Monday that the number of refugees from the “Rohingya” in Bangladesh reached 400 thousand.
The UN Security Council on Wednesday called on the Myanmar authorities to take “immediate steps” to stop the violence in Arakan.
Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International called on the Security Council on Tuesday to press the government of Myanmar to stop ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya minority.
