Burmese authorities arrested the former Rohingya mayor in the city of according to a sources.
In details, the current mayor summoned the Rohingya man named Haji Kaleemullah Ahmed Shafi aged 55-year-old to a Buddhist village, in the office of mayor and told him about an order for his arrest from the higher authorities, without giving any reasons for the detention and the mayor handed him over to the government in the city of Maungdaw.
The source indicated that the Rohingya detainee subjected to torture at the hands of security forces, despite suffering from a number of diseases.
Some local sources indicate that the reason for the arrest lies behind the refusal to implement the resolutions of arbitrary and repressive actions that were issued by the higher authorities against the Rohingya during his tenure as mayor of a Rohingya village. Eyewitnesses reported that the authorities have recently embarked on detaining the former Rohingya mayors in a confidential manner.
It is noteworthy that a large number of Rohingya mayor and politicians in Arakan laid off earlier in the past year, following the release of a government decision to ban Rohingyas from everywhere.
