The foreign ministers of Egypt and Bangladesh on Friday called for an end to the suffering of the Muslim minority of the Rohingya minority in the province of Arakan, west of Myanmar.
This came during a meeting between Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Abul Hassan Mahmoud Ali, on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said the two ministers stressed the importance of taking necessary measures by the government of Myanmar to stop the violations against the Muslims Rohingya and to find a lasting solution to the crisis, in addition to providing humanitarian assistance and providing the necessary protection for them.
The two ministers also discussed means of enhancing and developing bilateral relations between Egypt and Bangladesh in all fields, as well as a number of regional issues of common interest, according to the Egyptian statement.
Since August 25th, the Myanmar army and Buddhist militias have committed genocide against the Rohingya Muslims in Arakan province, killing and injuring thousands of civilians, according to activists in the province, as well as the use of some 421,000 Bangladeshis, according to the United Nations United Nations.
