Rohingya Muslims came in front of the Myanmar Embassy in central London demonstrate and condemn the acts of violence pursued by the government of Myanmar against Rohingya Muslims in Arakan province in west of the country, calling on the international community and the United Nations to assist in the conduct impartial investigations on government practices.
The demonstration was held by Arakan Rohingya Organization UK (AROUK), where more than 300 people participated.
For his part AROUK President Deen Mohammed Noori said “We must take immediate actions against atrocities of Myanmar government. Save last Rohingya in Arakan Myanmar. Raise your voices and continue doing protest. We are not supposed to stop until we get our rights back.”
The United Nations called on the political leader in Myanmar, Ms. Aung San Suu Kyi to visit Arakan to reassure residents that they will enjoy the protection amid accusations on soldiers of raping women from the Rohingya minority and the burning of houses also the killings of civilians.
Reports indicated that the Myanmar military campaign in Arakan province have resulted in death of at least 400 people and caused displacement of ten thousand across the border into Bangladesh.
The crisis represents a challenge to Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ms. Suu Kyi, who rose to power last year after she promised for national reconciliation.
For her part, Suu Kyi “has accused the international community,” for fueling resentment between Buddhists and Muslims in northwest Myanmar.
