Bangladeshi Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Monday condemned attacks on Muslims in the Arakan region of western Arakan province, “an indirect attack on Bangladesh.”
In a statement to reporters in the capital, Dhaka, he called on all countries to “counter the attack by the rogue government of Myanmar.”
He also appealed to the international community: “They must intervene to stop the massacres carried out by the Government of Myanmar against its citizens in the Arakan region.”
He stressed that his government “carried out its duties towards Arakan refugees, when they hosted them on their territory.”
He noted that Bangladesh “is making double efforts to establish a safe area for Arakan Muslims on the Myanmar side of the border between the two countries.”
Since August 25th, the Myanmar army and Buddhist militias have committed genocide against the Rohingya Muslims in Arkan province, and there is no clear census of the victims of the genocide
