Burmese authorities recently started arbitrary arrests campaign against imams in Buthidaung, Rathidaung and Akyab townships of Arakan state with a high number of Muslim Rohingya population – on charges of violation of government orders, which requires the closure of mosques and prevent Rohingya from praying according to a source.
The source indicated that the Burmese authorities have arrested a number of …imams and scholars during the performing Taraweeh prayers and these people were subjected to severe beatings and torture at the hands of the authorities; injuring a number of them with moderate wounds.
It is noteworthy that the Burmese authorities issued an order to close the mosques and schools of Rohingya Muslims in Arakan following the Buddhist outbreak of violence against Rohingya Muslims in 2012.
