Rakhine extremists vandalized an ancient mosque in Zay De Pyin (Zadi Farang) in Rathedaung and desecrated the Muslim holy Quran.

At around 12.30 am on Tuesday 15th November, the gang entered the mosque and they were loudly cursing and shouting. After they left the spot, villagers went to the place and found they had tried to set the building on fire.

The fire had destroyed Muslim holy books, the prayer place for the Imam. Empty bottles were also discovered at the site.

Later when Muslims complained to the village administrator, he said no Rakhines were involved and Muslims had set fire on their own buildings.

The mosque was first built in 1896 and later upgraded in 1912.
