A preparatory meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation looking towards Rohingya cause

The preparatory meeting of the Forty-Third Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), scheduled in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, in October 2016, took place in the OIC General Secretariat headquarters in Jeddah from 26 to 28 July.

Topping the agenda of the preparatory Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) is the issue of Palestine and the Arab-Israeli conflict. SOM will review the developments in Palestine and the City of Al-Quds Ash-Sharif, the occupied Syrian Golan, Israel’s occupation of Lebanese territory, and status of the peace process in the Middle East.

The other important issues on the SOM agenda include the fight against international terrorism, conflicts in the Muslim world, notably the situation in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Mali, and Jammu and Kashmir, rejection of unilateral economic sanctions on some OIC MemberStates, UN reform, and the expansion of the UN Security Council membership.

The SOM will also discuss issues of disarmament, Islamophobia, defamation of religions, establishment of new OIC regional offices, situation of the Muslim groups and communities in non-member States such as Philippines and Myanmar, OIC Program of Action 2025, Independent Permanent Commission for Human Rights, humanitarian programs and projects in Gaza, Syria, Yemen, Chad, Somalia and other member states especially with regards to refugees and internally displaced people, and media affairs including the launch of an OIC satellite channel.
