A Rohingya minor refugee boy was tortured to death by the human traffickers in Kampung Kumbang Sali, Alor Setar Township of Kedah State, Malaysia on 21 March 2015, according to correspondents
The victim was identified as Nur Hussain son of Nasir and Nur Jahan, originally from Sindong, Buthidaung Township of Arakan State but now his family resides in Block D, Nayapara Rohingya refugee camp, Bangladesh bearing MRC No: 18153 under UNHCR mandate.
He left his home for Malaysia at the end of December 2014 without informing his parents.
While he reached Thailand, the human traffickers made phone call to his parents and demanded one hundred and fifty-thousand (150,000) Bangladeshi Taka as ransom to send Nur Hussain to Malaysia.
His poor father Nasir, whose family depends on his daily income hardly managed the demanded ransom, taking loan with interest by handing over their Food-Seam-Card (which is given to each registered refugee family to collect ration-food distributed by WFP) said his tearful father.
After receiving money the human traffickers did not send him to Malaysia for 2 and half month ignoring his parents’ crying and his distress.
Nur Hussain was severely tortured by the traffickers and at one stage his both legs were already swelling up seriously affecting with edema.
Last Thursday 19 March 2015, he was sent to Malaysia in critical condition and kept him in their trafficking reception house.
There was a rumor of police raid at that night and all the people ran away from that house leaving him in the bed laying down as he could not move on witness stated.
Some Rohingyas who found him in that critical situation took him to the neighboring Mohammed Islam’s home where he stated that he was kicked in his chest and severely tortured by the human traffickers.
Due to lack of legal document he could not be admitted to the general hospital on that day. But Amir Hussain, Islam and others who helped him tried their best for his better treatment by collecting some money from their friends said another eye witness.
Unfortunately, today (Saturday) at about 2PM he lost his last breath in the bed. Nur Hussain’s destination was Malaysia, being the eldest child of his parents he wanted to find a job and start a new life supporting his family particularly to educate his 6 younger siblings but unfortunately, he has reached to his final destination.
Around 6PM, police came upon the information given by Islam and investigated the incident. The dead body had sent to the hospital for autopsy.
Later on, Islam was called and said to go the police station tomorrow (Sunday) morning preparing RM 1,500 for his funeral.
