A local Malaysian airline met 50 Rohingya student refugees in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur in support with them and trying to draw the community’s attention to their support.
AirAsia’s CEO, Benjamin Ismail, said the visit was the first and was also a first step in assistance and cooperation and would examine the various forms of assistance that could be provided to Rohingya children for education.
“This is a form of support for the Rohingya refugees as a whole,” Ismail said.
Ismail expressed his pleasure and happiness on this occasion. “Seeing smiles on children’s faces and playing and eating with them is beautiful,” he said.
The company’s employees participated in games with young children, performed dances with them and also traditional Malaysian cuisine. The children were pleased with the celebration and said they remembered the suffering they had experienced during their flight from Myanmar and their arrival in Malaysia. The school, run by the Ministry of Higher Education since 2009, provides pre-school and primary education for about 60 Rohingya children between the ages of three and 14. The company has announced that it plans to visit other Rohingyas schools throughout the country to study needs or assistance that can be given.
