Local residents in northern Arakan province found a body floating on a local river believed to be a young Rohingya who was  burned and killed by Myanmar troops during the two-month-old military campaign against the Rohingya minority.

According to a video clip from a R0hingya village, the body shows the appearance of a young Rohingya with clothes such as the one worn by Muslims and on the body traces of burning and torture. The locals said that the body was smelly and believed to be a person killed several days ago.

The footage showed the body floating on the water and heading towards the river, where the crowd heard: “We could not approach it, because of the smell. It seems the person was tortured and burned. “

The locals says they were unable to identify the body  and was believed to be coming from the neighborhood of Baidu village, north of the city of Maungdaw, west of Arakan.

The Rohingya Muslims, who fled to Bangladesh, reported about crimes committed by the Myanmar forces with extremist Buddhist militias, including killings, burning, torture and rape. The United Nations described the campaign as ethnic cleansing and that the army had an advance plan to expel Muslims from their villages and homes.
